Learn about volunteer opportunities at Linwood Gardens - all abilities and skill levels welcome!
VOLUNTEERING
Would you like to help prepare the gardens for the Tree Peony Festival? Or work in areas that need more attention during the summer?
We generally work March-November, meeting Wednesdays and/or Saturdays from 9am - 11am, followed by coffee and treats. You can come once or as often as you like, and all abilities and skill levels are welcome!
Available volunteer opportunities:
Gardeners (pruning, raking, weeding, mulching, other tasks)
Front desk greeters (welcoming guests at Tree Peony Festival and other events)
Tour guides (some qualifications required)
Masons, carpenters, metalworkers, etc.
If you would like to participate or need more information, please contact us!
Rebuilt Stone Wall (2023)
Stones were lifted and more stones added to create a retaining wall - which doubles as a seat!
Repainted Windows (2022)
Our volunteers Laura and Bill repaired glazing and repainted the trim of the summer house windows.
Spring Cleanup
As soon as it’s warm enough to work outside, usually in March or April, we begin raking and removing debris to get the gardens ready for the season.
Invasives Removal
To help maintain a balance in our habitat and support beneficial animals, we remove certain invasive plants where feasible. Chervil is one plant we work to contain.
Native Plants and Trees
Each year, we add more plants that are native to New York to help support beneficial insects and animals.
Tree Peony Leaf Cleanup
Each fall, we remove the crunchy leaves from our tree peony plants to help reduce fungal diseases. It’s also easy and social!
